I’m Drowning In The Night

Writen as: Aidan Fitch-Fletchly

Aidan often lay awake in the middle of the night, when the moon reigned of the land and stars kissed the darkness. It was his time to think over everything that had been happening. Many might have called it insomnia. But to him, it was a moment of peace. He stared up at the ceiling, hand resting on his chest while counting the beats of his heart. It had been a somewhat peaceful week and honestly, that concerned him more. He often found the days that seemed peaceful, where the days that darkness brewed within the corners of the room- hiding out of sight until it pounced out- going for the throat.  However, he always kept those concerns to himself. He didn’t want to concern those he cared about, especially not his siblings. It was his burden to carry. His and his alone.

Rolling over in the bed, his feet touched the cool stone flooring, the chill shocking any tiredness he had lingering within him fully awake. He was finding the room to be claustrophobic. So, he had decided to return to his favourite thinking spot, in the common room by the fire. The warmth of the heat with the glow of the flame helped him to focus, searching deep within himself for whatever the hell he was searching for. It was…Peaceful.

Walking down the steps, he stopped when he reached the bottom, frowning when he realised somebody was already in his seat. Getting closer, he paused when he realised it was his sister. He remained silent momentarily before taking the seat beside her. He didn’t feel the need to talk. He knew words meant nothing compared to actions. So, he pulled her into a hug and stared into the fire. If she was going to struggle with insomnia, they might as well do it together….
