AButterfly In The Blizzard

She paused, feeling the gentle kiss of cold against warm skin, Flurries of fairies floating around absentmindedly in the dimming twilight. Her fingertips had long gone numb, with only the gentle throb of her skin reminding her that she truly was still alive in this moment. Such a beautifully melancholic moment, picture perfect. She was sure that the purebloods who tried to destroy her would write paragraphs on this moment, insisting that such beauty could only come from someone truly pure of blood. It disgusted her.

She was supposed to be inside where the warmth invited her in. The devilish glow of all those who wished to destroy her lay just inside the door. But, she much preferred to stay outside in the angelic white, lying down on the ground, allowing the purity of the white crystallised teardrops fell perfectly all around her. So beautifully fragile, so easily disrupted yet they still fell yearly without fail. She found it truly inspiring.

She knew tonight, everything was going to change. She hadn’t planned at all as much as Sirius had. He had an idea of where to go, and who to run to. But she didn’t, not her. All she knew was that she was in love with Sirius Black and refused to belong to anyone else. Not only was she doing this for her, but also Lucius.

She knew the male loved Narcissa, saw how he looked at her and longed for her. She too knew he was also a victim in this game they were forced to play. And though he was cruel, he still deserved happiness. She would run for them both. Then, not only would she be free, but so would he with his dignity intact. Everyone would expect the redhead to run. He wouldn’t need to disrespect his father. In her eyes, it was her own desire for freedom and pity for him that had her reacting on impulse.

Closing her eyes, she allowed the angels to kiss her eyelids tenderly, glacial touches which chilled her to the bone. She remained in that moment of serenity for a moment too short, wishing she could stay forever before finally, she stood up. White flakes clung to her long lashes, entangled within her fiery curls as ocean hues glanced behind her at the house she hadn’t called home for far too long. And with one simple breath. She whispered her final parting words to the life she had chosen to leave behind.

“Goodbye, Father.. I’ll never be the daughter you long to have.”  And with that, she turned around and walked away from everything she had ever known- toward the unknown.

A butterfly in the blizzard.
